In a significant development due to a partnership with the NGO NCC Inc funded by the Local Engagement and Action Fund – LEAF , the law enforcement officers of Region 2 have commenced a vital two-day training program focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and prevention. The training, held at the Divisional Headquarters conference, was kicked off with an address by Regional Commander Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran of the Guyana Police Force in the presence of Deputy Commander Ms. Doerga ag.

In part of  his remarks, he stated ” This training is important to us as it’s critical for our ranks engaged in the community to understand and overcome the challenges, properly deal with the misconceptions about GBV and provide a rounded service as members of the Guyana Police Force here in the region”

The comprehensive training sessions are designed to equip the law enforcement personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively address and respond to GBV cases in their communities. The program covers a wide range of topics, including:

– Understanding the dynamics and impact of gender-based violence
– Developing trauma-informed and survivor-centric approaches
– Enhancing investigative techniques and evidence collection
– Strengthening referral pathways and coordination with support services
– Promoting community engagement and prevention strategies

This initiative marks a significant step forward in the region’s commitment to addressing the critical issue of gender-based violence. By empowering law enforcement officers with the right tools and knowledge, the training aims to foster a more responsive and effective system to support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.
