Youth Challenge Guyana (YCG)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Youth Challenge Guyana (YCG) enhances the lives of youth through health, education life skills and livelihood. Youth Challenge International began conducting projects in Guyana in 1989 with Guyanese and Canadian youth. In 1991 the Guyanese youth started their own organisation to provide services to the Guyanese community especially in the remote regions where services were scarce in the areas of health, education and infrastructure.

HIV/AIDS Related Services

  • HIV Prevention information sessions to youth
  • Risk Reduction Assessments & Counselling
  • HIV Prevention and Testing

Community Health & Social Services

  • Provide schools with volunteer teachers
  • Support inquiry based science in primary schools.
  • Conduct lifeskills sessions with vulnerable youth
  • Support community leaders with training
  • Conduct business skills training with women entrepreneurs

Future Goals

Youth Challenge Guyana hopes to:

  • Strengthen the sustainability of current programs
  • Increase opportunities for Guyanese youth to travel abroad to develop their own skills and potential.
