In a display of collaborative efforts, the NGO National Coordinating Coalition Inc. (NGO NCC Inc.) and the Ministry of Health along with The National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS), and National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) joined forces to bring a comprehensive range of health services to the community of Puruni Landing, Region 7. The three-day outreach initiative, held from May 9th to May 11th, 2024, aims to address critical health issues and provide holistic care to the residents.
The first day saw an overwhelming response, with over 100 individuals accessing the various services offered. From HIV testing and counselling to gender-based violence support, the outreach program covered a wide spectrum of essential healthcare needs.
One of the key highlights is the National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS), which facilitated free and confidential HIV testing on 53 community members. This initiative not only raised awareness about HIV prevention but also encouraged early detection and timely treatment.
Recognizing the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) in the region, the National Tuberculosis Programme played a vital role in offering Mantoux testing and providing crucial information on TB prevention and management. This proactive approach aims to curb the spread of the disease and promote early intervention.
Furthermore, the outreach addressed the often-overlooked issue of gender-based violence, offering support services and legal assistance to those affected all for free. In addition to these core services, the event also provided blood sugar and blood pressure testing, allowing residents to monitor their health and receive guidance on maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
The overwhelming response from the community has the team anticipating a similar response on day 2 where the GBV team will be doing a door to door exercise. Gift bags were distributed to those who visited the outreach site.
