The National Coordinating Coalition Inc. Gender-Based Violence (NCC GBV) team conducted village outreach in the remote Cartmarket and Koko villages of the Barima Waini region in northwest Guyana. Instead of a centralized event, this was a door-to-door effort to connect with residents directly on their doorsteps and village streets.
The team went house to house, stopping villagers out in the community to have conversations about gender-based violence prevention. They distributed informational flyers and put up posters to raise awareness about the NCC’s services. The outreach also involved a stop at the local health facility to meet with a nurse and get her perspective on the GBV challenges facing the villages. After this helpful discourse, the team continued their outreach by handing out care hampers to residents.
The grassroots approach allowed the NCC to truly reach the Barima Waini villagers where they live and work.
