On the first day of the NGO National Coordinating Coalition Inc. in collaboration with the Ministry of Health – Guyana; National AIDS Programme Secretariat-NAPS & National Tuberculosis Programme two-day outreach Community Health Outreach in Puruni, Region 7 was well received.

The team after setting up was able to provide medical testing services to dozens of members of the community who lined up until the evening to partake. There were over Twenty HIV counseling testing completed while nineteen persons tested for Tuberculosis. The results of TB test takes Forty-Eight hours to produce results and will be available before departing the region.

There was also a community walk-around led by Doctor Trotman who spoke on the importance of knowing your HIV status, testing for TB, and practicing good general health. Which prompted persons to join the queue to access the services provided by the team.

The NCC’s Gender-Based Violence team also took to the streets of the vibrant community which has a high population of Venezuelan migrants to share the services of the agency and partners. With the use of an interpreter, the team shared a typical case and how it would be facilitated with confidentiality and free of cost. Flyers and other materials were given to the members of the community and posted strategically in the business area.

The outreach continues with a drive into the mining areas to access some camps to offer information, conduct testing and distribute preventative materials.
