Team RUBIS kickstarted the NGO National Coordination Coalition Inc. (NCC)’s Football Academy project with a GYD 2,000,000 donation, helping to launch an initiative aimed at equipping at-risk and marginalized youth with essential life skills through the power of sport.

These funds will directly support the plan to integrate sports development with academic incentives and life skills training for vulnerable children in the Cummings Lodge and Sophia areas.

Retail Accounts Executive, Joylyn Johnson said RUBIS remains committed to making a meaningful impact on the communities it serves, with a particular focus on education and healthcare. She noted that the Football Academy initiative aligns perfectly with this mission, providing structured coaching sessions to motivate students to excel academically while engaging out-of-school youth in positive activities. She said RUBIS was pleased to support the project.

“Every so often, we are reminded that we live in a world where the gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ is being further extended. This chasm leads to a greater degree of vulnerability for children who are poor and disadvantaged. RUBIS has long recognised this state of play and continues to assist youths in Guyana and wherever we have a footprint.”

Executive Director of NCC, Simone Sills, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasising the broader benefits of the Football Academy:

“Your sponsorship has been crucial in ensuring that we can continue offering essential life skills training to our participants. Through the Football Academy, we focus on teaching invaluable lessons such as conflict resolution, team building, goal setting, and shared values. Our participants often face significant challenges, including limited access to resources and exposure to negative influences. We truly believe this partnership can help foster positive behaviours and instil the values we aim to promote. On behalf of the entire NCC team, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your support. I look forward to sharing further updates as we move forward with the program.”

As part of its support for the project, Team RUBIS has committed to volunteering and assisting with functional aspects of the programme, including addressing students on topics related to life skills.
