In a significant step towards creating safer workplaces, Camex Restaurant Inc., the Guyanese franchisee of Church’s Chicken, Dairy Queen, Mario’s Pizza, and Pollo Tropical, has completed a nationwide Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness training. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the esteemed NGO National Coordinating Coalition (NGONCC), reached nearly 90 employees across Georgetown, Linden, and New Amsterdam.
The comprehensive program, expertly led by NGO NCC, aimed to educate Camex’s staff on the complexities of gender-based violence. Sessions covered identifying GBV, its impact, prevention strategies, mental health management , the legal coverage and recourse and available support resources. While the primary focus was on fostering a safe work environment, the training also provided valuable insights applicable to employees’ personal lives and communities.
By collaborating with NGO NCC, a respected authority in advocating for social justice and an umbrella organisation for GBV and other social services, Camex Restaurant Inc. demonstrated its commitment to addressing GBV seriously. This partnership not only enhances the training’s credibility but also connects employees with a network of support beyond their workplace.
As these 90 employees return to their respective restaurants, they carry more than just food service skills. They are now equipped to be advocates against gender-based violence, making a difference one shift at a time. Camex’s initiative, powered by NGO NCC’s expertise, sets a commendable example for businesses in Guyana, showing that corporate responsibility extends to social issues that affect us all.
