The National Coordinating Coalition (NGO NCC), a leading non-governmental organization addressing gender-based violence in Guyana, has embarked on an important sensitization program with Camex restaurant the franchisees of Church’s Chicken, Dairy Queen, Mario’s Pizza and Pollo Tropical group in Guyana, one of the country’s private employers. The multi-session program aims to educate staff on issues surrounding gender-based violence, raise awareness, and provide resources for prevention and support.
The first phase of the initiative kicked off last week at Camex Guyana’s Camp Street office in Georgetown. For three days, nearly 60 employees from the capital city and West Bank Demerara region participated in the intensive sensitization sessions conducted by NGO NCC’s facilitators.
“We are extremely grateful to Camex Guyana for their openness and commitment to tackling this vital issue,” said Ms. Simone Sills, Executive Director of NGO NCC. “Gender-based violence has far-reaching impacts, not just on survivors but their families, workplaces, and communities.”
The sessions covered key topics such as defining gender-based violence, dispelling myths and misconceptions, recognizing warning signs, understanding the cycle of abuse, and most importantly, sources of support for survivors. Participants engaged in open discussions, activities, and scenario-based learning.
Following the successful Georgetown launch, the NGO NCC team will be taking the sensitization program on the road to Camex Guyana’s regional offices. Sessions are scheduled in Linden over the next two weeks, followed by Berbice in early June.
Camex Guyana’s partnership with NGO NCC represents a significant step towards building a more gender-equitable and violence-free workplace culture in Guyana’s corporate landscape.
The National Coordinating Coalition continues its tireless efforts to end gender-based violence through advocacy, empowerment programs, provision of support services, and multi-sector collaborations like this one with Camex Guyana.
