Continuing the regional outreaches the National Coordinating Coalition Inc. Gender-Based Violence team visited the village of Huradiah in Region One. The event took place at the village’s ICT Hub and community center, with 33 attendees, including 9 men.
The NCC’s GBV team spent time explaining the services offered by the organization. GBV Specialist Ms. Buedeen Williams led this portion, introducing village members to the regional community support officer Ms. Jemima Franci. The villagers then shared their understanding of gender-based violence when prompted by Ms. Griffith who gave an overview with examples as part of her presentation.
Other team members gave presentations covering different aspects of the NCC’s work. Mr. Hugh Park, an attorney, discussed the legal services available. ICT specialist Mr. Jackman highlighted the GBV Digital Platform, emphasizing its 24/7 availability, ease of access, and strict confidentiality protocols. Case Navigator and Spanish speaker Ms. Vanessa Holder talked about the migrant services NCC provides.
The villagers provided feedback, expressing a need for more information on substance abuse, ways to deal with domestic violence and abuse, and safe sex practices. At the end of the event, the NCC distributed care hampers with the assistance of the village’s community service officer.
The outreach to Huradiah allowed the NCC’s team to connect with this remote community directly. By explaining their services and hearing from villagers, they can better understand local needs and tailor their gender-based violence prevention and response efforts.
