The NGO National Coordinating Coalition Inc. (NCC) held an impactful gender-based violence (GBV) sensitization event today in the village of El Paso. Over two dozen community members including teachers, business owners, a pastor, and other local leaders gathered at the village benab for the informative session.
Facilitated by NCC’s GBV case navigators Nichola Richards and Vanessa Holder, the outreach equipped attendees with valuable information and resources around GBV response and prevention along with the services provided by the NCC including the GBV referral pathways.
NCC’s lawyer Hugh Park outlined the legal services the organization provides to survivors seeking justice and safety. Psychologist Latoya Beckles stressed the importance of psychosocial care in the healing journey for GBV survivors.
ICT specialist Ishaka Jackman demonstrated features of NCCI’s recently launched online GBV platforms that connect survivors to support services. Community members learned how they can utilize the technology to be more empowered allies.
“I’m grateful to NCC for helping our community better understand Gender-Based Violence and how we can extend care and compassion to survivors seeking help. Also, ways we can report and get help for each,” said a nurse present.
Other participants expressed appreciation for learning warning signs of domestic abuse and protocols for sensitive crisis response. Several men voiced a commitment to speak out against violence in their social circles.
The NCC team invited attendees to be champions in their community by spreading awareness and directing those in need to assistance. This program is in partnership with the Local Engagement and Action Fund – LEAF
