– Scores of migrants and community members engaged

The Hope Foundation Bartica in partnership with the National Coordinating Coalition Inc wrapped up its two-day outreach in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region 7 Guyana. The team conducted sessions on Gender-based violence, sexual reproductive health, and their co-relation, legal issues regarding migrants, and other services available to the community provided by both NGOs.

Day two was held at the headquarters of the Bartica Hope Foundation where over twenty-five women were gathered. After an introduction of the team by Ms. Nichola Richards with the aid of a translator & Coordinator Mr. Ivor Melville attorney at law and legal consultant of the NCC Mr. Hugh Park addressed the gathering.

He began his discourse by stating that the laws and justice system of Guyana does not discriminate on the basis of

nationality. The issue of domestic violence was heavily discussed and most of the women shared the difficulty of the separation from their abusive partners who are in many cases the provider of the home. Mr. Park explained the process for those who are prepared to leave and how the NCC can facilitate the same.

A case of child abandonment was brought to the floor for legal input and guidance. A commitment was made to engage the relevant agencies already in partnership with the NCC to provide guidance for resolution.

To close the session all the services were listed to the gathering with an emphasis on all of them being free of cost to everyone. Care packages were also distributed to participants.
